The only problem that I'm having is that on boot up it keeps on changing the sign in identification for password.
If you get any that say they are not required for your computer that usually means you already have that update installed. It renames the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old , essentially clearing the Windows Update download cache so that it can start over. Plus there is an admin account that I can't get rid of. I've been able to ONLY install the Dec rollup for step 5 and still end up with the same amount of updates populated by Windows updates. A couple of restarts made no difference: it just went straight back to 100% CPU. Steve Solution 1 worked for me! Did Calvin ever realise that Hobbes was not real? Check the EDIT section below, there is a much faster way to fully update Windows 7 SP1 after a clean install now. But it doesn't exactly help isolate the cause.
